The eighteenth Hung King had a beautiful daughter named Mi Nuong. The king loved his son very much and wanted to find Mi Nuong a worthy husband.
The bigger Mi Nuong, the more beautiful she is. At the age of the full moon, countless boys of his lineage wished to marry her. The reputation of a beautiful girl and a beautiful woman resonates as far as Tan Vien mountain, where Son Tinh – the god of mountains and land lives. One morning, Son Tinh decided to ride a majestic white tiger to propose to Mi Nuong. On the same day, a man riding a majestic water dragon, claiming to be Thuy Tinh also proposed to Mi Nuong. King Hung wondered, everyone is talented, know who to marry their beloved daughter to? In the end, the king decided, two people compete, whoever wins will get to marry Mi Nuong. Immediately, Thuy Tinh called rain to call the wind, thunder and lightning exploded, the whole Phong Chau city seemed to explode because of the flash flood, making not only the lost generals in fear but even the Hung King trembled. Son Tinh is also not inferior, he points to the East, the East has mountains and hills, he points to the West, the West is sandy. Everyone is impressed. King Hung wanted to marry Mi Nuong to Son Tinh but was afraid that Thuy Tinh would get angry. After discussing with the lost princes for a while, the king said: “Both of them are talented, but I only have one child, so tomorrow, whoever comes early, brings a full hundred rounds of sticky rice, one hundred banh chung, elephant nine tusks. When the chicken is ripe and the horse is ripe, it will be able to welcome Mi Nuong as his wife.”
The next morning, when the first rays of the new day had not yet appeared, while the sky was still immersed in the night mist, Son Tinh and his entourage came to take Mi Nuong to Tan mountain. Thuy Tinh came later, couldn’t get a wife, and got angry and sent a crew of monsters to chase Son Tinh. Son Tinh called a mighty army of tigers, leopards, bears, snakes.., to fight against Thuy Tinh. The sky and earth were dark, and lightning bolts crossed the sky like giant snakes winding like they wanted to tear the sky apart. Son Tinh and his soldiers continuously threw stones at the water monsters. After a while of fighting, Thuy Tinh raised the water high, engulfing all the houses, fields and trees, etc. Soon, the whole Phong Chau city was submerged in the sea. People and animals rushed to the high mountains to take shelter. Son Tinh allows the mountains to always be higher than the water of Thuy Tinh. As much as Thuy Tinh raised the water, Son Tinh raised the mountain as high. The battle goes on from day to day. Thuy Tinh gradually exhausted, had to withdraw troops. People went down the mountain to rebuild their houses, break the fields to reclaim.
Since then, every year, Thuy Tinh also raised water to fight Son Tinh, but lost the battle. Today, our people still build dikes, plant forests, and each year still join forces to fight floods, like in the past, our ancestors and Son Tinh fought against Thuy Tinh. That’s how we know, if we work together, there’s nothing we can’t do.
